As long as I can remember, there have been the Republicans and Democrats. Each party demonizing the other. My parent's philosophy was simple. Republicans good, Democrats evil. Simple but untrue.
The more I think about this (basically) two-party system we have, the more it does not make sense to me. These political parties are powerful organizations that control what candidates are offered up for the election and then dictate the policies which that candidate will implement from the President all the way down through Congress. The word bi-partisan has no meaning. A Repub is a Repub and a Demo is a Demo. Oh, there's some leanings toward the center (Blue Dog Demos) but everybody pretty much stays to their own party.
Wait, this is a government "of the people, by the people and for the people." I don't read the words Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or the name of any political party in there. However, the political parties are there with their hands out like all the lobbyists and PACs seeking favors from the powerful because they contributed heavily to their campaign. That means our political parties engage in just as much influence peddling as everyone else out there that they condemn.
Last time I looked, the title of the office was President of the United States of America and the Congressmen and women of this country were in the United States Congress. These offices SERVE the people of the United States of America NOT the political parties. However, it does not work that way.
Hence, I am advocating in Total Recall 2010 that potential candidates we would support should renounce membership in either party and run as an independent candidate. No, not a candidate of the Independent Party but just an unaffiliated candidate. One who states his or her platform clearly and is open to any kind of checking into their background that might be necessary to make sure they are worth of our trust as Americans.
We need people of good moral character in office come November 2010. True, not that many seats are up for grabs in the next election but it is a start. And it will make the career politicians REALLY nervous if we can get just one candidate elected. Because where there is one in 2010, there will be more in 2012. So I urge you to support this movement in any way you can.
Career politicians need to go. Term limits for Congress need to be implemented. Government needs to be shrunk back to a reasonable size and removed from intruding on our lives. Big government is not the answer.
We are Americans and we can take care of ourselves. We are not a nation of welfare recipients or little children with our hands out. We want to have our hands busy building, creating, inventing, innovating and being constructive, productive and profitable. A working America is a strong America and Entrepreneurs are the engine that keeps Americans working and keeps our economy running.
That's my thoughts for tonight America. God bless us all.
