There is an old adage that goes like this: You give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. But teach a man to fish and you feed him for life. Thus you have the essential difference between communism/socialism/Marxism/progressivism and a capitalistic free market economy.
Marxists (progressives uncloaked) are the people who want to give everyone everything. Let the government provide for you is their philosophy under the guise of sharing the wealth. They would have you be dependent on a big government for your needs. There is only one problem with this. Dependence is the equivalent of slavery. Just as debt makes you beholding to the lender and a slave to him, dependency on government for essential needs creates a form of slavery. You are not free to do as you wish. You are beholding to the government and therefore under their control. This is slavery, pure and simple. Just look at our welfare system and how it has enslaved the poor and uneducated. This form of slavery also fosters crime since people have nothing meaningful to occupy their time.
So are Marxists/communists really interested in the good of all people as they claim? No, they are interested in maintaining power through dependency and slavery and ignorance. True altruism is when you do something for someone that they are incapable of doing for themselves without expecting anything in return. Marxists and communists and socialists are NOT altruistic. Nor can you find a place on this planet where these political/social/economic philosophies function in a truly free society. They create waste, corruption and bureaucracy.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Continue giving that man a fish each day and make him dependent on you so you can control him. This is their philosophy.
But with a free market system comes freedom. Teach someone how to care for himself and you create a useful member of society. They pull their own weight and are industrious and happy. They tend not to be criminals because they have meaningful work to do. They have no time for the sloth that breeds the criminal mind. This is what America was founded on.
But what of the indigent and unfortunate among us? Those that cannot care for themselves. What of them? Well, this is where charity comes in. Charity should not be provided by the government. Charity is the realm of private organizations like the Red Cross and the churches. People of faith need to have an opportunity to be charitable to their neighbors. When the government steps into this role, it robs all people of faith of an opportunity to increase their faith through charitable acts. People who are dependent on the government do not participate in charitable acts. They have no time nor inclination to do so. They themselves are needy. People engaged in working in a free market system, on the other hand, usually have more then enough to share with those who have nothing. Charity is the means through which individual redistribution of wealth can take place in a voluntary manner. All churches should be preaching of the obligation of those who have to be generous to those who do not have due to no fault of their own.
So, you see, a free market economy (capitalism) is all about freedom. Marxism, communism and socialism are all about enslavement.
As I recall, we outlawed slavery in this country quite a while back. I would say that settles why we cannot have this Health Care Bill or any of the other socialistic, Marxist legislation our president and the progressives are trying to get passed in Congress. In order for us to remain a free nation, we must embrace and promote our capitalistic system. We must reject any philosophy or legislation that would be a handout. We must only deal in enabling people to work and learn to fish for a lifetime.
Goodnight, America. May God richly bless your work.
