They both were believed to be unsinkable.
Well, the rats are jumping ship. Evan Bayh retires and so the exodus of politicians begins. Better to retire than to be soundly beaten in an election. Will we see more of these "retirements"? I think so.
So, the "shine" has rubbed off the savior. President Obama is losing face quickly among his own party. No one in the Democratic party seems to believe that the good ship "O" can keep them afloat in November. The smart ones will quietly go away. The less savvy ones will stay the course and get soundly thrashed come November. Nancy Pelosi's days as Speaker of the House are numbered. You can kiss Harry Reid goodbye as he has no chance at all for re-election.
Now this is real "hope" and "change". In fact, I hope there will be a big change in the makeup of the Senate and House. It is possible that President Obama will find himself in Bill Clinton's shoes circa 1994. Let's hope it's not anything to do with an intern but simply that he would now face a Congress controlled by the other party. For someone who seems adamant about not learning from the past, Pres O would do well to make a phone call soon to Hillary's hubby on exactly how to proceed after November. The Clinton playbook could prove helpful.
However, Pres O seems destined for failure because he will not use the lessons of the past to learn how to deal with the problems of today. He appears to think that he's smarter than anyone else in history and will somehow come up with a solution to further his progressive agenda that no one has ever considered before. After all, he is a Harvard man. It is not uncommon for professors to become so full of themselves that they cannot see the simple solutions presented by those that have faced identical situations in the past and doom themselves to failure because they will not heed the voices of their predecessors.
For example, people still insist that Marxism or Communism or Socialism is the answer to the woes of society. This has been proven a fallacy time and time again with the latest victim being the USSR. These forms of "big government" do not work in the long run whereas our form of government has shown veracity for over 200 years. Freedom is bread into us. It is the essence of the American Spirit. Valor, courage, charity and compassion are all character traits we admire as Americans. No matter your politics, Americans stand behind their young men and women in the military because they embody that which we hold dear.
Yes, we have some cleaning of our house to do. Yes, integrity does need to be restored to Washington. Those in power need to be people who believe in "We the people" as the ones they are serving. Men and women who, once elected, put their political party aside and work for the good of the American public without regard to re-election or special interests. People who have a disdain for corruption and who stand on principle. These are the type of members we need in both houses of Congress, Americans of a higher standard.
As I have said before, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. We can sweep out the decay with a single vote this November and replace it with fresh blood and devoted countrymen. Let's not just vote for a party this November, let's vote for the person who best represents the ideals of being an American. We have routed the progressives and they are beginning their retreat. Time for us to move in and seize control of what it rightfully ours. We, the people, need to reclaim our Republic.
