Sprechen Se Deutch?

I voluntarily took German in High School for two years as my foreign language requirement. I had the best German teacher in the world. A sweet lady with a big round face and pouty lips. She had broad shoulders and, with the addition of a helmet with horns on the side, would have fit perfectly into a Wagnerian opera. I can't recall her name right off the top of my head but the German she taught me will stick with me through my whole life. She was an awesome teacher.

But learning German was voluntary, what if it had been compulsory? What if that was the national language? What if you had no choice in the matter at all? What if it had been Japanese? These are real possibilities if you think about the absence of American involvement in World War II.

We would either be part of the German Empire with an aging Adolf Hitler still in charge or part of the Empire of the Sun. Either way, America would not be what it is today. We would be slaves.

On the other side of the coin, the Germans would not be free of tyranny and the Japanese would not have the technological advances they have today but for us setting them free.

The world is more free today than it was 65 years ago because we were there and involved. We defeated the Nazis and the Japanese. We brought about the collapse of the Soviet Union so that we would not be overrun by Communism. The Berlin wall came down thanks to us. It is American involvement and our freedoms that have made the world a better place to live in and spared the world the poverty and pain of slavery under a single, cruel despot.

We are the beacon of freedom in this world. The ONLY beacon of freedom, I might add. And yet we have a President that thinks our foundation is cracked as a nation, that our Constitution is fundamentally flawed. That somehow we are not entitled to keep the fruits of our labor beyond a certain point. That we can be too rich (this from a man that made $5.6 Million in 2009). That somehow the rest of the world is entitled to a share of what we have worked so hard to earn. Really? Because I earn a living I am in some way taking something away from someone in a Third World country? Because I have a successful business I am obligated to share whatever wealth I have with those in foreign countries who are incapable of generating such wealth? Really? Since when? Since Karl Marx wrote down his sick, twisted ideas eons ago.

America should be appreciated for what it is today and how it has helped the world stay out of global despotism. By hating America, you are saying that you hating the very freedom to which you are entitled by your Creator. That is, assuming you acknowledge the Creator when quoting the Declaration of Independence. But I digress ...

To the world I say, Got a car? Thank an American. Got food on your table? Thank an American. Got a cell phone? Thank an American. Got a house? Thanks to America. American inginuity has been involved in the creation and advancement of all these things. We brought the world the transistor upon which all of today's electronics are based. We have innovated in every area of life from agriculture to automobiles to electronics and to construction. If not for us, not one would be as well off as they are today. You are welcome, world.

So why would you want to change things at the most fundamental levels that have gotten us where we are today? Why try and bypass the Constitution and criticize it? Why try and destroy our Free Market economy which has helped the world be a better place through all the innovation here in America?

Well, I'll tell you why. We have a President who believes with all his heart that he is smarter than History. He does not value the past as a learning tool. He does not believe that repeating the same behaviors that have caused failure in the past will produce the same result (this is defined as insanity in AA). He has bought the lie that the theories of Karl Marx will somehow work in the real world when they have been proven failures many times. He believes Communism (sorry, State Capitalism) will somehow magically work. Mr, President, is there ANY Communist country in the world today you would actually like to go live in?

Our President does not believe that hindsight is 20-20. That looking at the past can help avoid mistakes in the future. So he attempts to steer this country into a "fundamental transformation". He believes there are things the government should do for you. Lots of things. So many things  that your individual initiative is killed. Our President may be smart but he is not wise. He also does not understand much about human psychology.

Our Founding Fathers understood, though. They knew the true nature of man. They understood that in order to move forward, people need an opportunity to succeed not a handout. It is incredible how motivated people become when there is not one to bail them out of their situation and meet their basic needs. When facing the possibility of work or starve, 9 times out of 10 they will work. The one who will not work will become a criminal and steal from the other 9. It's just human nature. This is why our Constitution is written as it is. To make sure the 9 have the opportunity to succeed or fail and that the 1 will get treated justly when he is caught stealing.

The looming lesson of the past is that The Founding Fathers were frickin' geniuses who had some serious divine help in forming this nation. American has good and bad and is a reflection of human nature. Approximately 90% of Americans are good and decent and moral people, 10% are criminals or lazy, good-for-nothings who live off the government. Unfortunately, our President is trying very hard to increase that 10% figure.

I agree with most people that President Obama is sincere in his efforts and, although not wildly popular, believes that he is doing good to this country. He believes that he is helping us progress. Unfortunately, he is very naive. Never having had a real job and never having worked in the business world, he mistakenly believes he understands the common citizen. Hey, he's smart but there is no book knowledge that can replace good, old experience. His inexperience has led him to believe that the past is irrelevant and that he has a better idea. He does not know how to seek wisdom. He is much like the college graduate that thinks he knows everything about his profession and then goes into the workforce and gets humbled as he learns to be a real professional.

And, unfortunately, what he knows about human nature is limited to how to manipulate people. This lack of understanding is going to cost him the 2012 election.

It has been said that "The past is the key to the future" and that is so right. We can survive an inexperienced, thin-skinned, naive President for another 2 years but then we need to elect a real grownup to the White House. I fear that our President is still stuck in his idealistic college days and has never made the transition to real life.

Let's help our President by removing from Congress all those who would blindly agree with him and do his bidding. Let us replace them with thinking, functional adults who appreciate the past as the teacher who keeps us from repeating the same mistakes and shows us what really works in solving our current problems. We need new blood in Congress to help our President mature.
