It's too good to be true.
I did a little research today on the Senate and House elections of November 2010. The facts blew me away.
The Senate has 36 of the 100 seats up for grabs and the House of Representatives has ALL 435 seats being voted on in this election.
Do you realize what that means? We could make a historic impact on American politics in one single election. If we could fill the 36 Senate seats with independent, non-partisan, moral, responsible citizens, sanity would control 36% of the Senate. That's huge! And in the House, if all incumbents could be unseated by rational candidates, the revolution would be complete. America would return to normalcy almost overnight!
President Obama would have no venue for his liberal, left-wing policies. Bills would get read and debated before being voted on. Congress would actually be working for the people of the United States rather than the special interest groups that have bought influence for years. Politics in America would be instantly transformed. True transparency would come to Capital Hill.
Be still my heart! However, to make this happen will take a lot of work. There is only 14 months until the election and a ton of work to be done. Funds need to be raised, candidates chosen and placed on the ballots and word of this movement needs to get out to every American voter.
I have already sent out an email to everyone I know and my wife has done the same. I am hoping that those that get the email will forward it to everyone they know and it will go viral around the US. I have my fingers crossed. I have already gotten a few encouraging feedback comments and they all have been positive. If you've received the email, please pass it on to everyone in your email address book. I need tons of help here.
I feel very much like David going up against Goliath. I've got 5 stones and a slingshot, he's got heavy armor and a huge sword. All we need is one well-placed stone, though, to down the giant. I have faith that we can do it.
This historic opportunity will not come again for another 6 years for Senate seats or 4 years for House seats. This means that Nancy Pelosi can be given her walking papers and we won't have to tolerate any more of her insults to the American public.
Some of the races are uncontested. We need to get candidates in there to give people a choice. Some of the races seem to be a sure thing for the incumbent. We need to challenge them with our candidates. Some of the races only have partisan (Repub or Demo) candidates. We need to give people a choice to break away from party politics.
I'm not afraid of hard work in the face of overwhelming odds. Are you? If not, let's band together and let Washington here that cry of Patrick Henry's: "Give me liberty or give me death!"
Join me in making history.
Good night, America. Sleep the sleep of a clear conscience.

Mr. President, Lead By Example
President Obama is a huge proponent of redistribution of wealth in our society. He has bemoaned the fact that the civil rights movement did not address this issue. It was supposed to address redistribution of wealth? Boy, that's news to me. I thought it was all about equal rights.
Now the concept of redistribution of wealth is simple. Those who have are forced to give to those who don't so that everyone ends up with the same amount, Comrade. If this sounds like communism or socialism, it is. But I digress.
I challenge our President to put his money where is mouth is and to lead by example. I suggest Mr. Obama redistribute HIS wealth to show us how it's done. In fact I have the perfect place to start: Air Force One.
Air Force One (there are actually two, one for backup) is the President's private plane. However, those planes cost us taxpayers between $220 and $240 Million dollars a year to maintain (these are LOW estimates). The 2007 fuel bill for AF1 was $6 Billion (yes, you read that right, that's a "B"). Whoa, wonder what the MPG is on that baby! Oh, and since we know that oil prices tend to rise, every $10 jump in the price of oil costs us another $610M in jet fuel.
By all estimates that I could find, the operating cost of Air Force One is around $68,000 per hour. That is one luxurious ride.
By eliminating AF1 (both of them) and donating that money to charities that feed the poor and to organizations that provide health care for the indigent, I think our President could make a significant dent in improving the lives of impoverished inner-city Americans.
Before Washington starts talking about taking away my hard-earned money, they better start doing some serious cost cutting in their own budgets and luxury perks.
Redistribution of wealth is hogwash. Our President has outright disdain for our entrepreneurial economy. Well, as a small businessman, I say "phooey to youey". I intend to keep my wealth and contribute to help the poor as I see fit. You want my wealth to redistribute? Good luck prying it out of my cold, dead hands because that's the only way you're going to get it, Mr. Obama.
Our country's greatness rests on the backs of independent small businesses. 70% of all people who work, work for a small business. There will be no redistribution of wealth without a serious fight from the American people. We earn it, we're entitled to keep it.
Mr. President, you know what you can do with your "progressive" ideas of communism and socialism. They're not "progressive", they are "repressive". And to promote these ideas is to promote 21st century slavery. There does not exist a democracy anywhere in the world that is as successful as America whose economic system is socialistic. In fact, all the socialistic/communistic nations are run by dictators.
Is that your intent, Mr. Obama? To become our dictator? Fat chance!
In the words of Patrick Henry, "Give me liberty or give me death." And I am more than willing to put my money where my mouth is on that issue.
Good night, America. God grant us all a peaceful sleep tonight.

Two Parties, Lots of Waiting
As long as I can remember, there have been the Republicans and Democrats. Each party demonizing the other. My parent's philosophy was simple. Republicans good, Democrats evil. Simple but untrue.
The more I think about this (basically) two-party system we have, the more it does not make sense to me. These political parties are powerful organizations that control what candidates are offered up for the election and then dictate the policies which that candidate will implement from the President all the way down through Congress. The word bi-partisan has no meaning. A Repub is a Repub and a Demo is a Demo. Oh, there's some leanings toward the center (Blue Dog Demos) but everybody pretty much stays to their own party.
Wait, this is a government "of the people, by the people and for the people." I don't read the words Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or the name of any political party in there. However, the political parties are there with their hands out like all the lobbyists and PACs seeking favors from the powerful because they contributed heavily to their campaign. That means our political parties engage in just as much influence peddling as everyone else out there that they condemn.
Last time I looked, the title of the office was President of the United States of America and the Congressmen and women of this country were in the United States Congress. These offices SERVE the people of the United States of America NOT the political parties. However, it does not work that way.
Hence, I am advocating in Total Recall 2010 that potential candidates we would support should renounce membership in either party and run as an independent candidate. No, not a candidate of the Independent Party but just an unaffiliated candidate. One who states his or her platform clearly and is open to any kind of checking into their background that might be necessary to make sure they are worth of our trust as Americans.
We need people of good moral character in office come November 2010. True, not that many seats are up for grabs in the next election but it is a start. And it will make the career politicians REALLY nervous if we can get just one candidate elected. Because where there is one in 2010, there will be more in 2012. So I urge you to support this movement in any way you can.
Career politicians need to go. Term limits for Congress need to be implemented. Government needs to be shrunk back to a reasonable size and removed from intruding on our lives. Big government is not the answer.
We are Americans and we can take care of ourselves. We are not a nation of welfare recipients or little children with our hands out. We want to have our hands busy building, creating, inventing, innovating and being constructive, productive and profitable. A working America is a strong America and Entrepreneurs are the engine that keeps Americans working and keeps our economy running.
That's my thoughts for tonight America. God bless us all.

Who's Lying Now?
Is your head spinning? Mine is. All the information and counter information that is being leveled at us is mind boggling. And everyone says the other guy is lying.
I have come to the conclusion that our President lies with the greatest of ease. He can look the camera square in the eye and tell the American people a fact that he knows is not true. He's not mistaken, he's a bold-faced liar. Naturally, those that voted for him will disagree with me.
So I'm thinking that the Republicans are giving out valid facts. Newt Gingrich appears on Bill O'Reilly's program. They are discussing Health Care like everyone else is. Newt states that costs can be lowered dramatically by doing one simple thing, allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines. Both O'Reilly and I are amazed that it would be so easy and the solution seems so simple.
Well, the old saying that "if it looks too good to be true it probably is" applies here. Wow that seemed like such a simple solution. What is wrong with the Democrats that they can't see that our free market system would single-handedly bring a significant lowering of insurance premiums if we would just open up the market? Hmmm, I later learned that I was deceived.
The following day, I go into a client's office. This client's business is the online administration of Health benefits. They have an online system that I have worked on as a programmer on and off for 4 or 5 years. I am currently working on a project for them so I am there all day long. I mentioned what Newt Gingrich said the prior night to a fellow programmer. "Bullshit" cries the owner from his office. I am taken aback. He comes out of his office and I ask him what he means. The owner proceeds to explain to me that the cost of health insurance is determined by WHERE YOU LIVE and the hospitals in that area. Not by competition with other insurance carriers. It is also a result of State regulations and a lot of insurers do not sell in states because they do not want to accommodate the state's regulations. News to me!
Now, the owner of this company has 20 plus years experience selling insurance and is a man of great character. He does not lie and he does not cheat. He is as fair a boss as one could ever find. So, I tend to take him at his word based on his character and experience and knowledge.
He also enlightens me to the fact that the insurance lobby has been trying desperately to educate our lawmakers about just this fact and Congress is not listening. Well, as Americans, we know how that feels to have Congress ignore what we are telling them.
Is anybody going to give us the straight dope on Health Care? My goodness, who do we believe. Everyone sounds off like an authority and no one is checking their facts before they pontificate. Give me at least one HONEST and CLEAR communicator who makes sure he knows what he's talking about prior to sounding off.
This brings me back to the reason for the Total Recall 2010 project. We need to get these "seasoned" lawmakers OUT! They have all been playing in the sewer of Washington for WAY too long. I'm not sure there's an honest one among them. OK, maybe Congressman Sam Johnson of Texas and Ron Paul. Maybe. Who knows? Would they tell us the truth even if it would cost them their political career? I'd like to believe that but I just don't know any more.
No more career politicians! No more lies! Let's clean house and elect lawmakers who are honest and transparent and who will tell us the truth even if it costs them dearly. Men and women of outstanding character and moral fiber.
Let's remind Congress that their power is ONLY on loan from us, the American people, the real power in America.

Isn't This A Bit Overboard?
That's basically the question a friend asked me recently (actually his question had something to do with babies and bathwater but I've condensed the essence here).
Well, my response is NO and the reasoning behind this is as follows. Those who have been part of the Washington system for more than one term are, for lack of a better word, tainted. You can't play in the mud for that long and not get stained. Know what I mean? We need fresh eyes in Washington looking for corruption and posing the hard questions about why we do things as they are done now.
If we elect candidates with the qualifications I have proposed in my Purpose document (see prior post for a link to it), they would be people of character. They would be appropriately aghast at things normal people SHOULD be aghast at.
This past Sunday, President Obama gave an interview to ABC News. When questioned about the ACORN scandal, the President's comment was that the behavior on the videos was "inappropriate". INAPPROPRIATE? You've got to be kidding me. Any normal person responds to those videos with outrage over such behavior being funded by their tax dollars. Why the soft response? I'll tell you why. Because such "inappropriate" behavior by ACORN is no surprise to our President. He's known about it for years and that's why he minimizes it. Besides, he's so closely tied to ACORN that strong criticism of that organization might spill over onto himself.
So, I believe we need to clean house in Washington of anyone who has been there longer than one term. Single-termers might still be salvageable (hopefully) and useful. The point is that in order to root out the corruption in Washington, we need to get at the root of the problem: the elected officials with no moral character who allow themselves to be seduced by big money.
Also, term limits will be important for the ongoing maintenance of a corruption-free government. Anyone elected knows that they are on a short leash from the American public and won't tend to get too comfortable in their leather Congressional floor chair.
I understand the viewpoint that this is extreme thinking and action here. However, our founding fathers obviously thought it important enough to guarantee our right as American citizens to turn over our government if it was not serving us. I think we are in that situation right now. Unresponsive government needs to be replaced by responsible and responsive representatives.
Americans are frustrated that their government is not listening to them and is taking an arrogant and racist attitude towards us if we attempt to disagree with them.
Time for some Red Queen action here. "Off with their heads!"
America, let's show them who's really in charge.

In the Beginning
Inspired by the Tea Parties, the 9/12 Project, Fox News and the recent 9/12/2009 march on Washington, I am beginning this blog to air out my thoughts on today's political situation and how to possibly fix things.
By choice, I am a conservative Independent. I once was a member of the Republican Party but am eschewing party politics for two reasons. One, partisan politics does not appear to be getting us anywhere and, two, the Republican party seems just as corrupt as the Democratic party to me. So, I take this opportunity to declare myself an Independent. I am not beholding to any groups ideals except those which I choose to adopt.
And speaking of corruption, I have gotten the distinct sense that the entire Washington system is riddled with corruption on both sides of the aisle. It seems to me that in order to get rid of the corruption, we must first apply that well-known surgical technique of cutting out all visible infection.
We, as American citizens, are not helpless or powerless to remove this corruption from the halls of Washington. This is why I propose Total Recall 2010/2012/2014 as a project to remove ALL career politicians from office and to prevent us from ever getting into this situation again.
Everyone wants to blame someone for our present circumstances. Well, I believe that career politicians are to blame. They are either corrupt and in bed with special interests or have just been in office so long they have forgotten just who their REAL boss is, us the American people.
Politicians should respect their constituency and posses a healthy fear of losing their privilege of power bestowed by the American people upon them. I have recently seen demonstrated, by people like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the disdain and arrogance which Congress harbors towards us regular citizens. Well, my response to that is that we should put the fear of God into them. They believe they are safe or, more pathetically, that they are truly representing their constituents. Neither of those things are true, I believe and we need to make a public statement to our leaders:
"We are the American people and we are in charge, not you!"
I believe the best way to drive this message home is to vote ALL incumbents out of office in the November 2010 elections and replace them with people who will do our will and represent us appropriately. Then repeat the process in the 2012 elections by replacing everyone including the President. The final cleanup would be in 2014 to pick up any lingering Congressmen who might have their terms expire in 2014.
As this turnover is taking place, we need to put term limits (2 terms max) into place for all Congressional seats. That will prevent us from ever having professional politicians again. Our Constitution allows us to clean house periodically in a peaceful manner and we should avail ourselves of it's powers granted to us, the people.
But who do we elect in place of the current corrupt politicians? Glad you asked! I have worked up a Purpose Statement for this project/organization along with a Platform that a candidate should support in order to be assisted by TR2010 in getting elected as well as a Candidate Profile which gives voters a point of reference to judge whether or not a candidate is worthy of the honor of representing us in US government. I will post that document here as I finish it this weekend.
But, now you have the general gist of what I am going to attempt to accomplish with Total Recall 2010/2012/2014.
There is more to come so stay tuned.
